5 lazy hacks to get 30 minutes of exercise!

One of the biggest issues I have when it comes to working out is time, motivation and yes maybe a touch of the lazy bug. I have heard it is best to get it out of the way first thing in the morning or you should do it in the evening after dinner like going for a family walk. For me, I never seem to have enough time in the morning, no matter what time I get up (more on this later) and after dinner, it’s time to do all the things I didn’t get the chance to do during the day because of work.

I honestly would prefer to exercise in the morning just to have the numbers locked in my profile and the rest of my day not to think about closing those damn rings, but the mornings are both my productive time and my lazy hour… let me explain. I get up every morning at about 6:30 am to let my husky out to do her business I do not have to log onto work until 8:00 am. Now I hear you saying I have plenty of time to squeeze in 30 minutes of physical fitness to improve my health! Yes, I do have a good hour and a half to start my day off on the right path, but this is usually my lazy hour. This is the time where I watch the news, scroll Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc. I catch up on the monologues of all the late show hosts from the previous night and make my starter cup of Joe, I may even get a few minutes of exercise in, but this is my lazy hour. From 8-5 pm I am a super stressed woman, trying to keep up with the emails, zoom calls, and accounts. Debating if I should take a lunch or try to eat, sleep, or get the other half of that 30-minute workout I started.

I have realized that get the 30 minutes was easy and I had the right idea just the wrong execution. In order to get 30 minutes I needed to close my rings and be on my way to a perfect week I had to have purpose in every step and every movement. I needed to find different ways to exercise that didn’t feel like exercise and I needed it all to count.

Here are a few ways that I have been sneaking in my 30 minutes.

  1. YouTube walking videos Leslie Sansone. I tell you these little 10 and 15 minutes videos are handy. I wake up I do my lazy hour and when my energy is just up enough to work out I cue up the video and set my apple watch to indoor walk and boom you got your first workout logged. These videos are low impact, and easy to follow.
  2. Indoor Cycling/Treadmill. Ok so here is the thing if you have one in your home, but can’t last long, do increments of 5’s or 10’s. Once upon a time, I was able to walk on the treadmill for almost an hour these days I barely make it 10 minutes. My treadmill was in danger of becoming a storage rack until I decided to make a change in health. During some of my listen-only zoom calls, I ride my indoor bike because it’s quiet and I don’t miss anything.
  3. Random marches. This one is easy, but it takes a bit of planning. When you get the notifications on your watch alerting you to stand you are going to go into your workouts under other work out, when the countdown begins start marching in place or moving about the area. you can do this for as long as you like, but you want to put some effort behind it and do it for at least 1.50 minutes to registers. if you do not have an Apple Watch you can set a timer or march to the timer as you heat your food. The purpose is to move, move, move.
  4. Quick Dance Party.– This is similar to the random marches except now you are doing it with flair. Pick 3 songs with high energy that are about 3 minutes each and dance your heart out. High energy, fast paces songs are recommended to get the heart rate up. A few of my favorites are “Time Warp” Rocky Horror Picture show, “Rasputin” Boney M. and “Get Ur Freak On” Missy Elliot. Do this 3-4 times you will definitely hit your 30 minutes.
  5. Play video games and Virtual Reality games. Yep, you read that right games and VR. Now everyone may not have access to a VR headset, but there are plenty of games that require movement equivalent to exercise. Ubisoft makes a popular game called Just Dance. This game gets your body moving to some of today’s hottest tracks, oldies, but goodies, kiddie songs. A feature in this game that I really like is the sweat mode. You can create your own workout playlist of songs that have different levels of intensity. Sweat mode tracks your calorie burn and allows you to create a variety of song “mashups” to vary your training. My favorite VR game to work out with also available on Playstation is Beat Saber. This game is cosmic-like where you slice blocks with a lightsaber. This game really works up a sweat and works the arms for a quick fun workout.

The “hacks” listed are just a few ways to incorporate more movement into your day. No matter how you move just do it… (Sorry Nike). Let me know if you have or will try any of the tips listed above. If you have any to share feel free to comment and then comment some more.

Until next time my friends.

Hi, I’m T—a storyteller, a widow, and someone who believes that healing and hope can be found in the pages of a good book. Writing has always been my way of making sense of the world, but after a few detours (including brain surgery, double shifts, and life showing me its toughest side), I’ve come back to the page with more fire than ever. Widow Tales is my debut, born from late-night scribbles and quiet moments where grief met imagination. It’s a love letter to second chances, resilience, and the kind of romance that makes you laugh, cry, and maybe blush a little too. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me with a good playlist, a journal close by, and probably talking to my husky and cats like they're my manager or my editors. This space is where I’ll share pieces of my journey...writing, life, and everything in between. Pull up a chair, you’re welcome here.

  1. I myself would just decide to do 50 push-ups, which would take about three minutes if I really push it. I tell myself I’d be happy with just that. But often I find myself doing more once I reach the 50 mark, so yeah, sometimes doing the littlest things helps too!
