Trust me I’m a Writer

TRUST ME I'M A WRITER

Alright, I’m a budding writer, getting back to what I’m most passionate about…writing a good story. When I was a teenager, I would read every book I could get my hands on. I would let my imagination take me into the world of whichever book I was reading, and it was like in some way I was a part of that book. I remember walking to the library every day to pick up a new book and return a finished one. I did this even when pregnant with my first child. My favorite authors were, hands down were Jackie Collins, Eric Jerome Dickey (R.I.P), Terry McMillan, and Zane.

I connected with the stories told by these authors and I knew I felt something every time I read their work. I wanted to be a writer and tell my stories just like them. So, I wrote poems, short stories, dirty limericks anything I could think of to get the tales in my head on paper. I kept writing new stories every day and they were good (of course they were), but I would never finish them, I would get a new idea and shelve the old one leaving my readers (family) to wonder how my stories would end.

I graduated High school, college, had kids, got married and through all of that my writing took a back seat to life and for years my passion would sit in a box in the basement waiting for me to have time. My children are self-sufficient adults and do not require 24/7 care. I now have the time to dust off that box and see what I can really do.

But, where do I start?

Enter Vocal.media.com. Vocal is something like a social platform for supporting, discovering, and rewarding creators. A site that also states that you can earn money for writing. This site is exactly what I need to get back into writing and if I could get paid even better.

Speaking of being paid. Vocal has these challenges that put a writer’s creativity to the test. A writer could win anywhere between $250 to $20,000 among other goodies and prizes. I have not won (yet), but I notice my writing is getting better with each story. My first two were written at 1:30 in the morning and were not my best work. It’s still posted...let me know what you think.

I recommend that if you have a passion for writing whether it is for poetry or short stories that you try Vocal. As I work to promote my stories I realize that I may actually have what it takes to be a creative writer and that works for me.

Have you recently returned to or started a passion project? Are you an aspiring writer? Let me know in the comments what your passions are.

Check out my stories HERE on Vocal.

Until next time

Hi, I’m T—a storyteller, a widow, and someone who believes that healing and hope can be found in the pages of a good book. Writing has always been my way of making sense of the world, but after a few detours (including brain surgery, double shifts, and life showing me its toughest side), I’ve come back to the page with more fire than ever. Widow Tales is my debut, born from late-night scribbles and quiet moments where grief met imagination. It’s a love letter to second chances, resilience, and the kind of romance that makes you laugh, cry, and maybe blush a little too. When I’m not writing, you can usually find me with a good playlist, a journal close by, and probably talking to my husky and cats like they're my manager or my editors. This space is where I’ll share pieces of my journey...writing, life, and everything in between. Pull up a chair, you’re welcome here.
